I am a puzzle designer. This picture shows one of my puzzle designs. I licenced the production of this puzzle for a small percentage, a royalty. Production, import, export or sale of this puzzle without my permission is illegal under UK, US and most international law.
It is like selling fake Rolex, DVDs etc. It is forbidden.
I am not aware that this version of the puzzle is produced by companies with my permission. When this happens, it is classed as counterfeit, illegal and piracy. I do not get paid when this happens. I am a small designer, and I cannot afford to allow unlicensed copies to be produced or traded.
Initially I contact small companies, to try and negotiate a suitable settlement. I also ask for details of the origin of any illegal version of the puzzle. I then try and negotiate with the manufacturer.
If this fails, I have no option but to advise the local customs officers, and relevant trade organisations. Importing unlicensed, counterfeit or pirate products can result in unlimited penalties, including seizing of entire shipments. It is in my interest to license my product as much as possible, and I am usually reasonable in this respect. All I ask is that my name appears on a product, and that the product is identified by its original name, Digigrams, as well as payment of a small royalty fee.
I have other puzzle designs available, which I would liked to see commercially available, but I cannot go ahead with this while illegal copies are being produced.
Please ensure that the legal department of your organisation is all aware of this document, and please ask someone from that department to contact me so that we can negotiate been mutually beneficial outcome. Alternatively please return all copies of my design to the manufacturer.
